Meghan B. Sullivan
Managing Partner
Meghan B. Sullivan, the managing partner of Sullivan, Hayes & Quinn, LLC and an employment law litigator, received a B.A. degree from Wheaton College and a J.D. degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where she was awarded the West Publishing American Jurisprudence Award for academic excellence in the field of Constitutional Law.
For a number of years, Ms. Sullivan has been named one of the “Best Lawyers in America” and “Lawyer of the Year” in the greater Springfield area in the field of management-side law as well as employment litigation. Nomination and selection is based on anonymous peer review. In total Best Lawyers in America has designated her “Lawyer of the Year” ten times and in three categories: Litigation-Labor and Employment, Employment Law-Management and Labor Law-Management.
Ms. Sullivan was repeatedly honored by Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States and the Irish Voice Newspaper as one of the Irish Legal 100. This recognition is given to 100 lawyers of Irish descent from throughout the nation for their legal accomplishments.
Her professional accomplishments were also recognized when she was repeatedly named a Super Lawyer in Massachusetts, a Super Lawyer in New England, and previously as a “Rising Star” among Massachusetts attorneys, by Boston Magazine. Ms. Sullivan is identified annually in publications such as the Wall Street Journal in light of the professional accolades identified for the peer-review process. Locally, Business West featured Ms. Sullivan as a “Woman to Watch” in the field of labor and employment law.
She was honored with a Proclamation from the City of Springfield regarding her professional accomplishments and also recognized as one of the “40 Under 40” by Business West.
Ms. Sullivan enjoys a BV rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review, which attests to a lawyer’s legal ability and professional ethics and is based on the candid feedback and opinions of other lawyers. Ms. Sullivan has been invited to testify before Committees of the Massachusetts House and Senate regarding pending legislation affecting workplace law.
Ms. Sullivan has been active in a number of business and civic organizations including serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts and its HR-Labor Law Legislative Steering Committee; as a member of the Board of Directors of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, Loomis Communities, Western Mass. CYO Basketball, and the Holyoke Merry-Go-Round. She serves as a corporator for PeoplesBank and in the local chapter of the Women Presidents Organization.
Prior to joining Sullivan, Hayes & Quinn, LLC, Ms. Sullivan was a prosecutor in the Office of the Hampden County District Attorney and has continued to provide service to District Attorney’s Offices as labor and employment counsel to both the Hampden and Northwest District Attorneys.
In addition to an extensive litigation background, Ms. Sullivan is experienced in the areas of employment law, discrimination law, labor relations, affirmative action, OSHA compliance, personnel policy and training. Ms. Sullivan has represented employers in numerous judicial proceedings, administrative hearings and arbitrations in both the public and private sectors; before the National Labor Relations Board, State anti-discrimination agencies such as the MCAD and CHRO, before the United States Department of Labor, OSHA, in state courts and in the Federal District Court. As client needs have demanded, she has handled federal litigation in other states from New York to Florida and extensive hearings before state and federal agencies in the northeast and as far west as Michigan. Ms. Sullivan has experience with both public and private sector collective bargaining negotiations.
Having completed the MCAD’s certified program for workplace investigators and anti-discrimination training, Ms. Sullivan has investigated complaints of harassment at the request of employers, and has advised public and private employers in responding to and investigating complaints by employees regarding unlawful, harassing, discriminating or retaliatory behavior.
Ms. Sullivan is a sought-after speaker regularly accepting invitations to speak at gatherings of professionals such as: the Massachusetts Municipal Personnel Association; the HRMA of Western New England (affiliated with SHRM); the Massachusetts Inter-local Insurance Agency; the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials; for various chambers of commerce and numerous other private organizations and entities regarding various employment topics ranging from discrimination to wage and hour laws. She has conducted numerous seminars, Supervisory Training Sessions and Management Development Programs, and is listed on the MCAD’s panel of sex harassment and prohibited discrimination trainers. Ms. Sullivan is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of Massachusetts and Connecticut, and is a member of the Labor and Employment Law and Civil Litigation Sections of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
